E-Bike laws

October 1, 2025 New E-Bike Laws

Educating parents and riders of E-Scooters, E-Bikes & Motor Driven Cycles.


Ensuring everyone's safety is a priority.

E-Scooter

  1. Two- or three-wheeled, 100 pounds or less, 
  2. Maximum speed of 20 mph
  3. Powered by electric and human powerDesigned to be ridden in an upright or seated position and has handlebars
  4. Driven on the right side of the roadway
  5. Head gear required
  6. May be ridden anywhere bycicle can.
  7. Shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian 

E-Bike

  1. Foot pedals & an electric motor.
  2. Less than 755 watts. 
  3. Driven on the right side of the roadway. 
  4. Headgear required 
  5. Shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian. 
  6. Classes 1 and 2 may be ridden anywhere bicycles are permitted. Unless prohibited by local restrictions.
  7. Class 3 electric bicycle shall not be ridden on a bicycle trail or path, or multi-use trail or path, subject to local ordinance.
  8. Class 3, 16 ys or older 

Motor Driven Cycle

  1. A driver's License Is required; no motorcycle endorsement is needed. 
  2. Motorcycle, scooter, or bicycle, 
  3. NO pedals, it is a Motor Driven Cycle
  4. Gas, electric, or hybrid motor, 50 cubic centimeters (cc), 3,700 watts or less, produces 5 brake horsepower (BHP)
  5. Can not be operated on sidewalks or prohibited areas
  6. Driven on the right side of the roadway
  7. Head gear required
  8. Shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian
