The Pledge

Newtown has experienced a crisis related to motor vehicle crashes for years. In response to this problem, the Town is developing a Vision Zero Action Plan to Support Safe, Healthy, and Equitable Mobility to achieve a 50% reduction in traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2036.

We want you to be part of the solution by committing to the Vision Zero Safe Roads for All Pledge and practicing these six safe driving habits. By changing our driving behaviors together, one road user at a time, we can make our roads safer for everyone.

As a "Vision Zero Safe Driver," I pledge to...

✓ I pledge to ensure that I am alert, considerate and careful whenever I use the roads, giving plenty of space for horses, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

✓ I pledge I will always drive within the speed limit (or slower) and at an appropriate speed for the conditions.

✓ I pledge I will always wear my seatbelt and make sure any passengers do the same.

✓ I pledge I will never use by mobile phone while driving and avoid other distractions.

✓ I pledge never to drive if I am impaired, even slightly, by drugs or alcohol.

✓ I pledge to give pedestrians the right of way at all times.

✓ I pledge to drive slowly in school zones and not pass a school bus that has its STOP sign out and the red lights flashing.

✓ I pledge to remain on the scene if I ever hit another motorist, pedestrian or cyclist, and to call 911.
